El turismo también sufre cambios, Reino Unido y la UE acordaron que los viajes de placer se podrán realizar sin un visado
El próximo 1 de enero los ciudadanos del Reino Unido y de la UE se enfrentarán a la cruda realidad cotidiana del Brexit, con el retorno de fronteras y normas que habían sido eliminadas desde hacía décadas.
A partir de esa fecha, los ciudadanos británicos en la Unión Europea serán considerados nacionales de un “país tercero”, y por lo tanto sin los beneficios de libre circulación para estudiar o trabajar en cualquiera de los Estados miembros del bloque. Del otro lado del canal de la Mancha, los europeos residentes en el Reino Unido pasarán a recibir el mismo tratamiento destinado a personas de cualquier otro país, con la posibilidad de registrarse para poder seguir viviendo en territorio británico.
En el ámbito del turismo también habrá cambios significativos. El Reino Unido y la UE acordaron que los viajes de placer se podrán realizar sin un visado, pero los británicos ya no podrán utilizar en Europa los servicios automáticos de control fronterizo de pasaportes. Para viajar a Europa, los británicos deberán poseer pasaporte con al menos seis meses de validez y su estancia estará limitada a un total de 90 días por semestre.
En cambio, los detalles de la regulación de viajes de negocios aún siguen siendo discutidos, siempre en casos en que las personas no reciban pagos o salarios por sus viajes.
Se estima que al final de este año habrá 1.3 millón de británicos residentes en Europa y 3.6 millones de europeos en el Reino Unido, y su derecho a permanecer está garantizado en el Acuerdo de Retirada, que rige el Brexit.
Pero quienes deseen emigrar después del 1 de enero tendrán por delante un panorama totalmente diferente. Los británicos llegados a la UE se enfrentarán a exigencias sobre seguros de salud, ingresos mínimos y dominio del idioma. Por su parte, el Reino Unido pretende adoptar un sistema de puntaje que tornará difícil la instalación de europeos en su territorio después del 1 de enero.
